Chinese Social Media Users become Mainstream and Diverse

Kantar has just released the 2015 edition of The Kantar China Social Media Impact Report, providing a wealth of insight on China’s evolving social media users based on statistical analysis of 2m Weibo posts, 711m WeChat views, and interviews with 66,000 online and in-person respondents across 60 cities.

The research found Chinese social media users are becoming mainstream and diverse. The average social media user age in 2014 is 30.4 , about 2 years older than the data from the year before.

Social media users engage less than before, the majority of users are still “just looking”.

Wechat is definitely the new darling of Chinese social media users and many advertisers are exploring ways to capture the opportunity. However for western brands, Weibo is still the best way of engaging in the Chinese social media playing field because Wechat official account is only available for companies who have registered companies in China.
